Thank You for Revealing Vanity
Here’s a prayer from my journal out of reading in Ecclesiastes lately in the Bible:
Father, thank you for Ecclesiastes. It is hard to hear the almost secular wisdom that is there… “vanity under the sun.” But, how refreshing and reassuring it is in light of the gospel of Your grace in Christ. I’m reminded that I’m a sinner in this book again and again—that my heart is quick to try to be satisfied with the vanities of the world that I “know” won’t satisfy.
Help me to truly know that You satisfy, my Eternal, Infinite Father… that Christ, the Son, has satisfied your wrath against me which I’ve rightfully earned at every vain turn. Spirit of God, fall afresh on me and remind me of the infinite riches of the glory of God in the person and work of Christ.
Thank you that I can now say, “Yes!”… that there is nothing but vanity and suffering “under the sun,” because through the True Son, I have been lifted above the earth’s horizon to commune with the Triune God without fear and with only infinite grace and love and joy and every good thing flowing to me that flows from Your never-ending, eternal nature.
Because I am “hidden in Christ with God” and vanity has been transformed to fullness… Amen.
